PROFESSIONAL TITLE WON SENSATIONAL FINAL CONTESTMOSS BEATEN TWO UP AND ONE. long-driving competition held (By Wire —Special from “Stance.”) Wanganui, Last Night. A. J. Shaw (Napier) defeated E. J. Moss (Auckland) 2 up and 1 to play in the final of the New Zealand professional ghampionship to-day. The •weather was fine though a model ately strong wind was disconcerting at times. Both players,- especially Shaw, were rather patchy over the first nine holes, but they then settled down and played brilliant golf, thrilling the large gal-: , Jery time after time, especially towards. • •the finish..' r Shaw won .the first hole, Moss missin<r an easy putt, but the Aucklander won the second and third. Moss sliced his second at the J4th and looked like losing the hole, but he chipped , up;: well and holed a ten-footer^’and then Shaw missed . a three-footer for a half. The Napier man then canned a 40-footer for a two af French Pass and was two up again. This was sensational golf, but there was more to follow. Shaw’s was short and bunkered and Moss’ just on the far edge at the 16th. Shaw recovered well and had a chance of getting a four when Moss sank a 40-footer for a win.. Moss was just through at the I7th and Shaw was on the far edge. The Aucklander chipped up perfectly to withm two feet of the pin and the game looked sure to go to. the last green when Shaw canned another 40-footer and won 2 up and one to play. Shaw was three under fours and Moss two under for the 17 holes played in the afternoon. The result of the long-driving competition is:—Professionals: H. W. Fuller, 291 yards, 272 yards; A. E. Pass, 282 yards, 256 yards. Amateurs: T. H. Horton, 268, 252; C. H. Stephenson, 262, ?50.

INGLEWOOD GOLF CLUB. LADIES’' CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS. MRS. GRANT BEATS MRS. WINTER. The final of the Inglewood ladies’ golf championship' was*-played on Thursday afternoon between Mr& Grant and-Mrs. Winter, and after a very evenly contested game Mrs. Grant won 2 up, A Ladies’ Golf Union medal match was played on. Tuesday,'when the best cards returned were those of Mrs. Winter 7fl, Mrs. Darlow 78, and. Mrs. Mulholland 78. The ladies’ challenge match between teams picked by the captain (Mrs. Grant) and the secretary (Mrs. Winter), Which was postponed, is to take place on Tuesday. As a result of matches played yesterday the junior championship was won by Miss N. Wilson with six wins and one loss. Miss M. McLean was in a good position with five wins and one foes, but lost the last two games played. Mrs. L. Pope was third with four wins and three losses. The ladies’ season will close at the end of October. The final of the men’s championship will be played over 30 holes between Messrs. 8. Lovell (present holder) and J. Ritchie during the week-end. Both are playing good golf and are on the same handicap. The official closing of the present seasbn of the Inglewood Golf Club will take place on Thursday afternoon, when the various trophies will be presented to the winners. Driving, approaching and putting competitions will be held, followed by a mixed foursome. . Several Inglewood golf enthusiasts went to Wanganui yesterday to see the semi-finals of the New Zealand championship.
