TARIKI NEWS

BOWLING NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Tariki bowling green was officially opened for summer play on Thursday last', and, in view of the fact that a good deal of rain fell the night before, and that the day itself was gloomy and overcast, the green was in very good order. Visitors were present from the Stratford, Avon, Inglewood and West End Clubs, to all of whom the president (Mr. Rumball) extended a very hearty welcome. Mr. H. Glen presented trophies to the winners of last year’s pairs and singlets competitions, the winning pairs being Messrs. Therkleson and Humphries, the singles having been won by Mr. Rumball. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies, among whom Mesdames Hucker senr., Mail and Manning took the leading part. They received the thanks of all present. In the absence of Mrs. Rumball, Rumball was asked to throw the first jack and roll the bowl, which was done in a creditable manner, a toucher being registered. The usual contest between president and vice-president was then started, the vice-president’s teams winning by 68 to 55 points. The following took part in the games: —

Mail, Manning, Codd, Rumball (s) P. V.P. 18 — Egarr, Humphries, Glen, Spur- — 18 Tomlin, White, Cottier (s) .... 22 — Lawson, Hucker, Dickenson (s) — 23 Somerton, Harris, Harrison (s) 15 — Crabbe, Therkleson, Wilson (s) — 27 55 68
