EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE HELD SUCCESSFUL SEASON FINALISED. ■ (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Inglewood Football Club las| evening held a very successful euohr® party and dance in the Town Hall finalise the successful season and commemorate the winning of the . Taranaki championship by the first junior team. This is the first time for 29 years that an Inglewood football team has won a championship, and the juniors were mueh congratulated on their success. During the evening a cup was presented to the seven-a-side team for . being runners-upt, at the Kaponga tournament, and medals were given to the ten who comprised the team that was Run-ner-up for the DeWar Shield. Competitions resulted: —Euchre, Mrs, F. Spurdie 1, Miss Nolan 2; Mr. J. Burgess 1, Messrs W. Lawson (who ■won tho play-off), I. Julian and D. Beggs tied for the men’s second prize. Several novelty dances were held; Visitors were present from New Plymouth, Stratford, and many other tow: . Much amusement was caused by the lucky number waltz, of which the winners were Miss Fabish and Mr. Herdman. Mr. C. Evans was master of ceremonies, and Harris Bros.’ orchestra supplied the music for the dancing. Mr. Wanklyn also spoke about the fine record of Mr. Roy Courts in foot-' ball in Inglewood, and said .that the club felt it had to recognise his work and was making him a presentation. He called on Mr. E. H. Young, Stratford, wiio was greeted with cheers on rising. He apologised for- tho absence of Mr. R. Masters and Mr. J. McLeod, who were unable to be present. Mr. Young congratulated the members of the Inglewood-Club who had been so successful. He felt that football had revived somewhat this year. Although in the/past the club had not . won the competition, they were recognised as sportsy they had always fulfilled their engagements and put up a great fight. They had had many lean- years and he felt that every team in Taranaki would' be pleased to see the improvement. He was pleased that the junior team had won the competition and h® thought it a most meritorious win. On behalf of the Taranaki Rugby. Union ho had much pleasure in calling on the the captain to receive the trophies. The shield was presented by the Taranaki Rugby Union and ‘the silver football was for-competition in the central division. He called upon Mr. Allan to accept a crips won' at Kaponga for thp team that was runner-up in the seveh-a-side Easter tournament. Medals were presented to a team which was runner-up at the Dewar Shield tournament. / Mr. Young ■ said they thought the Inglewood thirds had not had as good a run as they might have had; and they were having a meeting to try .and place things on a better basis.
