SALE OF WORK AT FITZROY
..CHURCHWOMEN HOLD AFTERNOON. KEEN PURCHASING OF BARGAINS. Produce, jams, pickles, needlework, cakes, scones and even sausages spread in profusion on decorated tables were eagerly bought at the-sale of work held by the ladies of the Holy Trinity Church Guild, Fitzroy,'.yesterday. The : parish hall was crowded and a sum of about £6O was taken. . The sale was opened in the. afternoon by Archdeacon F. G. Evans, who stressed the time and labour given by the church\yomen in the interests of the church. The women of the guild had worked all the winter preparing for the sale. The object of tfie sale was to pay interest on the church loan, interest on the. vicarage, and repairs to the vicarage. It is also hoped-to be able to pay oil a furthersinstalment of the loan on the church. Canon Strong and a considerable number of members from St. Mary’s parish attended the sale yesterday. The sale will be continued to-day. Stallholders were as follow:— Plain Stall. —Mesdames Peach, Halliday, Fairhall, Greatbatch. Fancy Stall. —Mesdames Giddy, Simpson Chivers, Crawford, Pearce. Produce Stall. —Mesdames Waterston, White, Colson, Clegg, Warnock, Kyngdonj Sladden, Lee, Taylor, Johnstone. Mothers’ Union Stall—Mesdames Le May, Gentles, O’Reilly, Huggard. Sweets Stall. —Misses Pavitt, Grover, Pullan. Afternoon tea. —Mesdames Gannaway, Gillespie, Simpson, Monteath, Quilliam, Bewley, Binns, Akers, Hatfield, Miss Marshall. Bran Tubs.—Miss Clarice Chivers. Competition were Won as follow: Mrs. Saunder’s cake (71b Coz), won by Mrs. Campbell, who guessed 71b 6|oZ; length of piece of string for iced cake (Iyd ISjin), won-by Mrs. Lee, who guessed lyd 18in. Cookery competitions were won as follow: Scones, Miss Pullen, Mrs. Corkill, Mrs. Dagley; sponges, Mrs. Day, Mrs. Dagley, Miss Grover; tarts, Miss Greatbatch,* Miss B. Andrews, Mrs. Dagley; seed cake, Mrs. Greatbatch, Mrs. Dagley; plain cake, Mrs. Dagley.
