WAR ON RAGWORT
USE OF CINNABAR MOTH. TESTS PROVE SUCCESSFUL. By Telegraph—Press Association Wellington, Oct. 2. In the war on ragwort extremely satisfactory results have been obtained with the cinnabar moth, according to a statement in the annual report of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, presented to Parliament today. Tests with this insect have proved successful, says the report. In consequence, about 500,000 specimens were liberated in ragwort-infested areas in the Bay of Plenty, King Country, Taranaki, Southland and Nelson districts. This liberation was for the purpose of testing the adaptability ot insect in the climatic ■ condition# prevailing in these districts. Reports indicate that it has apparently become successfully established where liberated, and if this proves true then it is hoped that generous supplies will be available for wholesale distribution in-all of the main ragwort areas of the Dominion next.summer.
