PEDIGREE JERSEY BULL FAIR

HAWERA JERSEY CATTLE CLUB. FAIR PRICES REALISED. Under t'he auspices of the Hawera Jersey. Cattle Club the eighth annual pedigree Jersey bull fair was conducted in the Glover Road yards, Hawera, yesterday. There was a good attendance of buyers, manifesting interest in the sale and the animals offered. Bidding was only fair, though becoming at times somewhat spirited. Some very wellconditioned animals were offered and realised very fair prices, whilst those in poorer condition were not so much sought after. About 80 per cent, of the animals were sold, realising an average of 23 guineas. The highest price received at auction was 51 guineas for Mr. R. S. Scown’s (Manutahi) very fine young bull Brookdale Golden Peer, by Hawkesbury Golden Peer —Superior Girl, born December 8, 1927. Messrs Harrison Bros., of Mata, Eltham, were the purchasers. After being passed at 60 guineas and 10 guineas respectively, Mr. R. McCay’s (Hawera) fine pedigree Jersey cow, Viola’s Primrose, by Farleigh Fox—Viola’s Dairymaid, born August 16, 1918, and her heifer calf, Viola’s Perfect Lady, by Miro Meadow’s Scotty, born August 19, 1929, were disposed of together by private treaty to Mr. F. Hoskin, Matapu, for 100 guineas. The sale was conducted by the Farmers! Co-operative Society and Messrs Newton King, Ltd., the auctioneers being Messrs C. G. Trotter, H. F. Wooffinden and B. Fearon.
