With the city’s food supply almost completely cut off as a result of the recent fighting on the Manchurian border and with the. winter approaching, the population of Blagovyeshchensk are faced with starvation. The town, which is one of the principal points on the Amur River, is situated on the Russian side opposite the Chinese town of Taheiho, which previously supplied most of the food and clothing to the Siberian town, but, with communications severed, the food supplies have been practically exhausted. The temperature along the border is already below freezing point and terrible privations are feared. In the meantime the situation is quiet, only slight skirmishes being reported. ,
