A very enjoyable evening was spent by the large number present on Monday,when the play-reading circle of the Taranaki Woriicn’s Club presented ‘-‘This Woman Business,” by Ben Levy. 'J he evening was open to the friends of the club members and.the lounge was filled with appreciative listeners. The principal part was read by Airs. W. C. Weston and others taking- parts were: Jlrs. Faris', Afrs. -Evans, Aliss Leaf ham, Miss Baker, Airs, j, C. Nicholson. Airs. U. IL Weston, Airs. S. Allen and Mrs. Church.

It mav be fairly said that the M cst End Croquet Club opened the 1929-30 croquet season so lar as New Pit mouth is concerned with a. most enjoyable croquet afternoon held on Mrs. I‘->. Afaj s lawn on Thursday last. The weather was all that could be desired and this together with the perfect playing condition of the lawn contributed in no small measure to the enjoyment. All present were kept .busy with croquet games and competitions interrupted only by a dainty Afternoon tea served on trie lawns. The following proved to be the winners of the competitions: Goll croquet. Mrs,.Drake after a play-off with Mrs. Piilt; target croquet, Afrs. Tomlin, after a plav-olf with Airs. Hayloek; trail, Mrs. Hartnell after a play-off with Mrs. .Mackay; cakes, Alesdamcs Leyland, Lester, Lcaland and Hartnell.
