EVERYBODY’S THEATRE. MATINEE TO-DAY AT 2 P.M. “Under the Southern Cross,” the sound synchronised production starring an all Maori cast, will again be presented at Everybody’s theatre to-day at a special matinee at 2 p.m, and finally to-night at 7.45. “Under- the Southern Cross” is supported by' an exceptional array of “talkie shorts,” which include “Barnum and Bailey” (singing and patter act); Fox movietone news (events of the world in talk and sound); The Brox Sisters (vaudeville trio), and “An Alpine Romance” (atmospheric novelty duet). “FOX MOVIETONE FOLLIES OF 1929” “The Fox Movietone Follies of 1929,” which commences a season at Everybody’s theatre to-morrow with screenings at 2 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., is a gigantic all talking, all singing and all dancing musical comedy. The production, which Fox Movietone has made possible, not only for Broadway itself, but for - thousands of other cities as well, lacks none of the excellence of stage productions. Widely known stage and screen figures head a long list of players; the numbers were written by men pre-eminent as popular revue authors; the music was composed by 'writers who have scores of popular successes to their names, and the picture was directed by men who are acknowledged leaders in their fields. Included among the principals are such favourites as Sue Carol, Frank Richardson, Stepin Fetchit, Lola Lane, Sharon Lynn, Dixie Lee, David Rollins, John Breedon and David Percy. “The Breakaway” (the latest ballroom craze), “Walkin’ with Susie” (the latest popular song), “That’s You Baby” (the song hit of Broadway), and “Big City Blues” (the latest New York success) are among the many offerings of this great show. “The Follies” is supported by a really magnificent supporting programme of “talkie” shorts, which include Fox' movietone news, which among its many interesting items includes a speech delivered by the King of Spain. Mr. Hammond, American Ambassador to Spain, introduces the King, and expresses his pleasure at being able to present him to picture audiences. “A Ladies’ Man,” an all talking comedydfetarring “Chic Sale,” and Forbes Randolph’s' Kentucky Jubilee Singers in minstrel melodies and spirituals are also presented. The box plan is now open at Collier’s. THE OPERA HOUSE. BIG TWO STAR PROGRAMME. 4 The new programme showing at the Opera House, New Plymouth, to-night and to-morrow night will comprise two excellent features preceded by a topical budget. The first picture to be screened will be an adaptation of Sir Arthur Pinero’s stage classic “Trelawney jjf the Wells.” Norma Shearer is starred and the principal male role is played by Ralph Forbes. Tom Moore also plays a prominent part. The story deals with the life of the theatre in the middle of last century and pokes gentle fun at the starchy formality of the Victorian era when-Rose Trelawney falls in love with the scion of an aristocratic house. The second picture, “Seven Footprints I to Satan,” is a straight mystery play ! but exceptionally fascinating, and by its j very fantasy, holds the interest and at- j tention throughout. From the moment j Eve and Jim,'’sweethearts, are kidnapped and taken to the house of Satan, until the time they escape after the -wildest experiences that ever befel two human beiims, ther; is no let up in the excitement. Thelma Todd, Creighton Hale, Sheldon Lewis and Sojin, the famous Chinese actor, head a great cast. The Opera House orchestra will be in attendance. THE PEOPLE’S THEATRE. FAMILY NIGHT. “Q Ships.” which will be finally presented at The People’s Theatre to-night, is a British pi eduction of the activities of those mystery “Q” ships that were employed by the Admiralty as decoys in the latter period of the war. It is a most thrilling story that is here revealed for the first time. Every incident that is re-acted for the camera js what actually happened. “Q Ships” . is a great for the British screen, and such notable figures as Earl Jellicoe. Lieut.-Coinmander Auten, and

Lieut.-Commander Sanders appear in it. The supporting programme includes “Blondes Beware” (comedy), Gaumont news and “Melodies of Spring” (a musical novlty).
