Remarkable stories of gang warfare in the Alexandria district with the town hall as the battleground were told by aidermen at a meeting of the council last night.
One aiderman stated that he and the Mayor had been threatened and he applied for permission to carry a revolver. On the past three occasions functions had been held in the town hall, he stated, there had been serious fights and the police had had to subdue them. Two men were taken to hospital as a result of the fights. The council decided to confer with the police for the protection of the, district from gangs.
