MERGER COMPANY TO TAKE OVER.

It is authoritatively stated that the Empire beam telegraphy systems are being handed over to the merger company at the end of September, It was also stated that- the post office was originally ■ budgeting- to. work the beams, at a small profit, but found it converted into such a large surplus, through-the growth of the traffic, that it was contemplating a substantial cut in rates before - the merger was mooted. This prospect had, definitely evaporated because it was pointed out "that the basis' of capitalisation of the merger precluded any chance of a reduction for a long time ahead, though- there was little fear of any increase. -, . Regarding wireless telephony to Australia it was stated it would be at leastsix months before a commercial service was instituted.
