SPORTS CLUB FUNCTION. There was a good atendance at the annual function organised by the Okoke Sports Club, and although arrangements were not carried out on such a large scale as last year the club left no stone unturned to make the function a success. The soft lights shining on the pretty evening gowns and added a touch of enchantment to the scene. Several novelty dances were held, the Monte Carlo waltzes being won by Mr. G. C. Whittaker and the Misses E., K. R., and A. Whittaker, and the spot waltz by Mr. and Mrs. E. Holley. 'The music was supplied by Mr. N. Edwin. Extras were played by Mr. A. Smith. Messrs. A. McKeown and E. Holley made efficient masters of ceremonies. Among those present were Mrs. H. Grylls, tinsel maracain; Miss C. McLellan, mauve taffeta; Mrs. T. O’Riordon, flame taffeta; Miss K. R. Whittaker, scarlet embroidered voile; Mrs. M. E. Fraser, blue rayon; Miss D. M. Holley, helio velvet; Mrs. W; Hargraves, salmon maracain; Miss Kathleen Slight, green crepe de chine; Mrs. E. Holley, black velvet and Spanish lace; Miss Iris Fraser, black satin and silver lace; Miss S. Holley, mauve rayon; Miss E. Holley, orange silk; Mrs. L. Slight, navy crepe de chine; Miss A. Whittaker, blue voile; Miss E.. Whittaker, pink georgette; Miss D. Haslett, blue georgette; Miss M. Hargraves, blue georgette, silver lace and Spanish shawl. GENERAL AND PERSONAL.

While going over his property recently an Okoko resident found a kiwi’s egg and on further investigation discovered a nest with the kiwi sitting on another egg. The bird declined to move when touched, but some days later she deserted the nest. There is an increase in the roll number of the Okoke school, a new “baby” having made its appearance in the school garage.

The Okoke-Mimi-Urenui combined school football team defeated the Waitara team by 14 points to four. The country girls were defeated by the town girls” at basketball. At a recent meeting of tho Okoke branch of the Farmers’ Union remits were passed protesting against the suspension of the tar-sealing on the main road. Copies of the remits are to be sent to the Prime Minister and the Main Highways Board. Mrs. E. Holley was hostess at a recent coming-of-ago party, when Mr. “Snowy” Needham was tho guest of the evening.. Many hours were spent in singing and games, while banjo items were given by Mr. Boswell, and piano items by Mr. G. Fraser. Among those present were Mcsdames M. E. Fraser, L. Slight and Miss D. Holley. Miss Natalie Whittaker has returned from Levin. Mr. Gordon Fraser has returned to his home.'
