By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.
Cairo, Sept. 1.
While the Premier, Mahmoud Pasha, was addressing a crowded meeting extolling the Anglo-Egyptian Treaty as replete with concessions, the Nationalist leader, Nahas Pasha, in another part of the city praised Lord Lloyd’s removal as a conciliatory act. He declared that Mahmoud should resign and allow full liberty of expression of the people’s will. His speech was frequently punctuated, with cries of “Down with Mahmoud!”
Later, gangs demonstrated before the offices of. the former Wafdist newspaper, Ahram. The police charged and arrested the ringleaders.
