COUNTY AND AERO CLUB

COUNCIL CONSERVING FUNDS. The financial relations of the Taranaki County Council, and the New Plymouth Aero Club were considered at the monthly meeting of the Taranaki County Council in New Plymouth yesterday. Roads, it was generally felt, at the present time were more important than air routes. The entrance to the club’s grounds had been formed by the county at a cost of £l5 16s. Yesterday the club, in thanking the county for the work, asked if it could eee its way not to charge for it. After an examination of the question, on the motion of Councillor Hall, the council decided to remit half the cost of the work.

Councillor Cartwright wondered what would be the club’s next move. Would it want more money? Councillor Hall said he was not in faw 1 our of any more expenditure by the county inside the aerodrome fence. The entrance was, of course, inside the county’s area of working. Councillor Thomas desired to know exactly where the Aero Club as a business company ended and as a public body began.

The matter cropped up again when the resolutions arising from the meeting of the North Taranaki Aviation Committee on August 8 were placed before the council. Councillors J. Connett and S. Vickero made it plain that, while attending the aviation meeting as the council’s representatives, they bad in no way tied the council’s hands. The council could do just as it wished in the matter without being under any obligation. The council promptly resolved that it regretted being unable to support the resolutions passed at the meeting of the North Taranaki Aviation Committee, as at present it had no funds available for the purpose.
