NORTH EGMONT HOUSE
IMPROVEMENTS TO OLD BUILDING.
BATH AND SHOWER FACILITIES
To celebrate the provision at the top, or old, North Egmont mountain house of facilities for hot and cold baths and showers for visitors of both sexes, the manager of the house (Mr. R. W. Larsen) and Mrs. Larsen were host and hostess at a most enjoyable dance and social evening at the old house on Saturday night. Over 50 guests were present, most of whom motored from New Plymouth, and a number stayed the night, returning to the town yesterday. During the evening an inspection was made of the new additions, which should prove of considerable benefit to people returning wet, cold and needing a bath from climbing or tramping.
In the absence of the chairman of the north committee of tho Egmont National Park Board (Mr. Gordon Fraser), Mr. G. M. Spence, on behalf of tho committee and tho guests, thanked Mr. and Mrs. Larsen for their hospitality, and emphasised tho value of the facilities in popularising tho mountain. Mr. and Mrs. Larsen had gone to a great deal of trouble to brighten and decorate the central hall of the house, and greenery, streamers, balloons, Chinese lanterns, the trophy of the goat hunt and a display of mountaineering equipment such as alpinstoeks, skis, ropes and ice axes were all included in the scheme of decoration. A dainty but none tho less substantial suppef was dispensed at midnight. Dancing competitions were held, Miss G. Boynton and Mr. T. Bellringer winning tho Monte Carlo waltz, and Miss Russell and Mr. T. Hookham the spot waltz. Orchestral items were given by an orchestra of five, recitations by Mr. Finlayson, a 'cello solo by Mr. G. Gaustad and a pianoforte solo by Mr. W. Groombridge. Messrs. L. Bryant and W. Groombridge acted as masters o£ ceremonies.
