EVERYBODY’S THEATRE. GREAT STORY OF THE SEA. A man young in calendar years but old in life’s drab shadows; a girl of blunted sentimentality. These two adventurers in life meeting in a cesspool of existence “somewhere East of Suez.” lhe streariKwe call Life carrying them, willy-nilly, into the desolate heart of a. great sea. Alone—the boy and the girl attended by three companions— Hunger, Madness—and Death. These two human beings, warm blood in their veins, and the air of strange places within their lungs, discovering the existence of their souls. This is the core around which is built the story of Scarlet Seas,” First National picture, which commenced a three-night season at Everybody’s last night. Richard Barthelmness is the star—the man who strolled into the crater of madness and death, and emerged with an inner renaissance; the girl is Betty Compson. “Scarlet Seas” was written as an original screen story by Scott Darling and adapted by Bradley King. The bulk of the picture was filmed at sea which necessitated the chartering of a large fleet of vessels. The characterisation of the rough sailor is one to the BartheL mess liking. There is more than just action and the always fascinating background of the sea—there is a thought in “Scarlet Seas,” a thought that deals with the regeneration of a man’s sou). Barthelmness has never been seen to better advantage, and we herewith predict an exceptionally successful local run. The supports include “Songs of Scotland” (a musical novelty), ‘‘Live News” (comedy), “Walter’s Day Out” (comedy) and Topical Budget. This programme will be screened at a matinee to-morrow at 2 p.m., when “Tarzan the Mighty,” Chapter 13, will also be shown.

All’comes right in the end. TThe officer is proved to°be innocent, but not before many thrillin o, moments occur, including a terrible fight’. Eve Gray, Carlyle Blackwell and Walter Butler bead a fine cast. “Riders of the Dark” is a thrilling and fast-mov-ing tale of a small frontier town in the days when bandits terrorised the papulation for miles around. Drama arises -from the death of the owner of the local paper whosfl straight talk about the gang arouses their wrath—aiid through his pretty’ daughter, Molly’, for whose love the gang lender and a courageous cavalryman fight a desperate battle, the odds being greatfy against the gallant cavalryman. Tim McCoy, Dorothy Dwan, Bert Roach ?*id Rex Lease head an excellent cast. The supports include a Charlie Chas* somedy and Gaumont News reel.
