PETONE LEVEL CROSSING

GOVERNMENT HELP SOUGHT. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Aug, 15. The need for a ramp over the Petone crossing, also the Hutt Park crossing, was recognised by Sir Joseph Ward to-day when a local bodies’ deputation claimed that the Government should bear the expense. Sir Joseph Ward remarked that there was a large number of people using motor services who paid nothing towards the roads, except the ordinary taxation. He offered to suggest to his colleagues that the Government should pay two-thirds, the local bodies to find the rest. The Government money would not come out of the highway funds. The Petone ramp is estimated to cost £58,000 and the other £lO,OOO.
