CONCERT AT WHITELEY HALL.

NOVEL PROGRAMME APPRECIATED

A splendid concert programme was given by the members of the Parihaka Hospitality Company at the Whiteley Hall, New Plymouth, last night, and the rather unusual entertainment met with enthusiastic appreciation" from those who braved the elements to go to the concert.

The programme opened in a novel manner, half of the party being on the stage, and the other half entering by the front door led by the Rev. Pihama. The customary Maori welcome was given by both sections of the entertainers, and continued while those who entered by the front door went up the aisle. Going on to the stage the Alaori handshake and salutations were given, the Rev. Clarence Eaton being included in the nose-rubbing ceremony. In welcoming their Maori friends, Air. Eaton regretted the untimely breaking of the weather which he felt sure had prevented many from being present. The Rev. Pihama then said a prayer in Alaori and in English.

Mr. T. Wai papa, the conductor and organiser of the company, introduced his artists and the following programme was given:—Hymn, “Alate Alaric,” the choir; orchestra, Maori lament; duet, “Ne Ko Ihu,” Eliza Pihama and W. Ira; solo, “He Kongo Pai Te Oranga,” Mrs. Waipapa; chorus, “E Pari Ra,” the company; instrumental solo, T. Pihama; instrumental duet, L Pihama and D. Tupoki; solo, Alaori lament, Airs. Waipapa; orchestral selection, poi dance with orchestral music; solo, “Pokarekare Ai,” T. Waipapa and company in chorus; haka; hymn, “Te Ariki Hei Au Koe Noho Ai,” the choir; hula drill (with music); chorus, “Po Otarau,” the company; ukclclc solo, I. Pihama; poi dance, typical Alaori; instrumental duet, I. Pihama and D. Lukoki; haka; chorus, Alaori lament, the orchestra; solo, “Puta Mai Te Ra,” W. Ira; chorus, “Hokitoki Tonu Alai,” the company; hula, Little Rukukiwai; National Anthem.
