. A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The concert in aid of the earthquake fund, held in the new theatre on Monday evening, was a big success. The fund will benefit to the extent of about £3O. The organisation and the concert details which devolved mainly on the secretary (Mr. S. G. Smith) were excellently carried out. The programme was a varied one: Songs, musical items, humorous items, ballet dancing and sketches. ’ Applause and merry laughter resounded during the evening. Songs were rendered by Mrs. A. C. Ferrick, Mrs. J. M. Turnbull, Mrs. J. Jolly, Mrs. G. W. Connell, Mrs, J. C. Maxwell, Spanish ballet dancing by Misses B. Burton (soloist), D. Clouston, G. Hammond, E. Trotter, G. Jenkins, E. Hinch, S. Jenkins, N. Hotter, G. Geary, Mrs. Harrigan, J. Julian, I. Henderson, G. and P. Smith (Hawaiian), D. Clouston (sole dancer), G. Hammond, E. Trotter, B. Burton, E. Hinch, S. Jenkin, G. Geary and Mrs. Harrigan. In the sketch, “Death in the Family,” the parts were taken by Misses Chambers and Newton; Messrs E. G. Smith and A. J. An amusing item was the dancing by the “Sugar Plum Fairies,” by Messrs. E. G. Smith and R. Richards. The orchestrial items met with spirited applause. The members were: Messrs. W. D. Richards (piano), C. Humphries (cornet), J. B. McMahon and P. Norris (violins), R. Henderson (trombone, side drum and bones). The accompaniments were played by Mr. W. D. Richards and I. Neilson. The ballet dancing was under the supervision of Mrs. Harrigan. At the conclusion Messrs. A, J. Brennan and E. G. Smith thanked the audience and concert artists for their assistance. GENERAL. Butter and cheese buyers are busy operating for the coming season’s dairy produce. Straight out offers are not being made. Mrs. Prosser and her son Garnet, of Oaonui, has returned on Tuesday after spending a fortnight in Nelson, visiting friends and viewing the earthquake damage. Mr. J. O. Sullivan, of Waiteaka Road, is a patient in the New Plymouth Hospital. Prior to the commencement of business at the annual meeting of the Ihaia Road Co-op. Dairy Company on Monday, the chairman (Mr. John Hickey) moved a vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. M. J. Macßeynolds, those present standing in silence as a mark of respect.
