VICTORY BY 27 TO NIL

QUEENSLAND OUTCLASSED ALL BLACKS NOT EXTENDED BACK DIVISION PROMINENT KIVELL SCORES LAST TRY By Telegraph—-Press Assn.—Copyright. Australian Press Association. Received July 24, 8.30 p.m. Brisbane, July 24. The All Blacks had no difficulty in defeating the Queensland Rugby team, who were outclassed in all departments of the game but notably in the back division. The score was 27 points to nil. The game was commenced in dull weather before 2000 spectators. The crowd later doubled. Porter, the All Black captain, kicked off and the New Zealanders won four scrums in succession, each time unfolding back movements which took play into the home half. Ward broke through, supported by Frizzell, and rushed play into the visitors’ twenty-five. Then play became more even. Lilburne got through smartly, running cleverly to the home twenty-five, but a forward pass held up the movement. Shortly afterwards the ball went right along the New Zealand three-quarter line and a score seemed certain, but McGhie (Queensland) took a loose pass and made another characteristic burst to half-way. His pass was missed and New Zealand again pressed. Twenty-five minutes after the start Geddes scored for New Zealand. He* finished a three-quarter movement from the ruck in’ the home twenty-five. The kick at goal failed. McGhie’s cleverness proved the bright spot in Queensland play.

The New Zealanders now took charge of the game and from the ruck near the line Reid touched down, but again the kick failed. New Zealand 6 Queensland 0 New Zealand broke through a minute after the resumption, Grenside scoring. The All Blacks could not yet kick a goal, however.

Porter was playing a heady game, starting several movements. The crowd, which had increased by about 2000 since the match began, saw Queensland on the defensive. A beautiful passing move started by Queensland in their own twenty-fivo was spoiled by a knock-on. The New Zealand forwards were now pressing and winning the rucks. For a few minutes Queensland rallied but then Gundy received the ball from the scram, beat the Queensland full-back and scored, converting his try.
