The company of 26 on Sir Douglas Mawson’s polar ship Discovery will bo allowed only JOO books, the choice of which was proved a difficult but pleasant exercise to the literary-minded. The Encyclopaedia Britannica and the Oxford Dictionary have first choice, while poetry, drama and philosophy represent seven books, including Shakespeare and Shaw’s St. Joan. Twentyfour relate to history and travel, where Polar expeditions preponderate; eight are of popular science. The fiction section comprises 53 books, mainly modern.
