PRINCE AND EX-SOLDIER. The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of York, Princess Mary, Princess Marie Louise, and Princess Helena Victoria attended a private view of an exhibition of embroidery work by disabled exsoldiers at Lord Melchett’s house, 35 Lowndes Square, S.W., recently. The Royal visitors .shook hands and chatted with each of the 100 disabled men who were i. the garden.

The Prince looked hard at the first' man, whose hand he shook. “I’ve seen you before,” he said. “Yes, sir—seven rears ago, at Leeds,” was the reply. The man was Mr. Shawcross, formerly a private in the Civil Service Rifles. He told a Daily ?' il reporter:—

I was at death’s door in a hospital at Leeds when the Prince visited it. A screen had been put round my bed, and he asked for it to be moved so that he might talk to me. That talk did me good, and here I am, feeling fine.
