ACTIVITIES IN NEW PLYMOUTH. At the tenth annual meeting of the New Plymouth Astronomical Society the financial statement, which showed a favourable balance of £l2 4s .3d, was adopted and the annual report (pfeviously published) was taken as read. An interesting paper on the "Structure of thb Universe,” written by Dr. Home, who was unable to be present, was read by Mr. G. H. Dolby. A. motion of thanks to Dr. Home was passed. ’’ - The officers for the ensuing year are: President, Dr. G. Home; vice-presidents, Dr. W. R. Wade, Messrs G. H. Dolby, D. Wilkinson and B. M. Wilson; treasurer, » Mr. T. M. Avery; secretary and director, Mr. F. J. Morshead; assistant secretary, Mn P.-W.-Glover; executive council, Messrs S. Alleman, A. G. Johnson, C. G. Bottrill, R. C. Wilson, S, , Compton-Smith and H. W. Insult. It was agreed That: the observatory . should be open to the public on Tuesday evenings, or op-such evenings as the council should from time to time decide.

Though there had not been many visitors to the’observatory, a great amount of real astronomical work was being carried ou* by the members, it was stated.

A vote of thanks was accorded Dr. Home for the gift of a valuable chronometer, which he had purchased while in England. .
