THEFT BY SOLICITOR

AUCKLAND MAN SENTENCED.

By Telegraph—Press Association

Auckland, July 22.

The young Auckland solicitor. Raymond Bradford Purser, aged 28, who pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to nine charges of theft, involving nearly £7OO, was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention.

Judge Kennedy said Purser during nine months had stolen money from a man who had trusted him, and there were no circumstances to palliate the seriousness of his offence, or to justify leniency. He was unworthy to belong to a profession whose traditions were those of scrupulous honesty, and through the prompt action of the Law Society he had been struck off the rolls. He would be sentenced to three years’ reformative detention on each charge, to be concurrent.
