In the semi-final of the Opunake Golf Club handicap Stephenson defeated Jones two up. In the final Stephenson plays the winner of the Dudley-Des .Forges match. A local store keeper had on exhibit varieties of early seed potatoes outside the window of the shop. A toivri cow strolled along, and made a meal of the tubers whilst the store hands were busy selling butter! Mr. R. Cairns, Ihaia Road, was taken to the New Plymouth hospital last week. The late Mr. W. Tippens of this district, who was killed in the accident near Mokau on Saturday, leaves a wife and three children (two boys and a girl). IHAIA SCHOOL DANCE. The dance in aid of the Ihaia Road school social fund was held on Friday evening. The scheme of decoration was carried out with green and gold streamers and tree ferns in the hall, and native ferns, pink flowers and green and gold streamers on the stage. The supper room decorations -were tree ferns and green and pink streamers, whilst tables, prettily decorated with native ferns and pink flowers, Avere laid out with a dainty homo made supper. The decorations were the work of Mrs. Wan and Miss Poletti. Coburn’s Star orchestra supplied the music. Extras were played by Mrs. Bradley, Misses J. O’Brien, Bradley and Hodgson. Misses N. Scheele, George and M. Fennell acted as M.’sC. The sixteenth person to enter the hall, Mr. W. Smith, was presented with a torch. The lucky spot Avaltz was Avon by Miss R. Johnson and Mr. Matthews, the prizes being a fancy cup, saucer and plate for the lady and playing cards and case for the man. ’ The prizes for the Monte Carlo dance, were a torch, won by Mr. Alex Harvey, and a box of handkerchiefs won by Miss Gloria Clegg. Mr. Ray Bradley and Miss Watson were the holders of the lucky supper ticket (No. 29), for which a pair of silk raffia slippers was the ladies’ prize and two tins of tobacco the men’s prize. These prizes were donated by Mesdames Wan, Stark, Fennell, Mr. Scheele and two by the committee. The ladies’ committee in charge of the function were Mesdames Wan, Stark, Fennell, J. Sinclair, Misses Poletti and Wan. EUCHRE PARTY. St. Patrick’s Hall was Avell filled on Friday eyening, the occasion being the euchre party organised by Mrs. R. Morris in aid of Catholic Church funds. The ladies’ first prize was won by Mrs, .B. Duffy, and the second by Mrs. A. Hickman. The men’s prizes were Avon by Mr. B. Conaglen first and Mr. Bert Hickey second. A tasty supper Avas served by the ladies.
