Two Dutch air squadrons met the Southern Cross, which landed, at 11.30 a.m. The civil authorities welcomed the airmen. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith and Flight-Lieutenant C. T. P. Ulm had a triumphant progress through the streets, which were lined by thousands of enthusiastic spectators. Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith, in an interview, said that he would cross the Atlantic, using the safe route from Dakar to Pernambuco.
