WORK LOST TO BRITAIN
CONTRACT PRICES TOO HIGH.. By Telegraph—Press Assn.-Copyright. Received July 21, 5.5 p.m. ►Sun. London, July 20. “Owing to the high prices demanded by British firms I have been compelled to place many contracts for goods abroad,” declared Mr. C. G. Ammon, Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, in a speech at London. lie said the difference on one contract, which had gone to the United States, was 120 per cent. It would be preposterous, continued Mr. Ammon, to spend public money to 'that extent in order to keep the contracts in Britain. He expressed the opinion that the disparity was not due to under-paid labour but to the British jnanufacturcrs’ lack of enterprise.
