FORM OF GOLF TEAM

THE HUTT TOURNAMENT. More than usual interest centred round the annual winter tournament of the Hutt Golf Club which opened on Thursday owing to the fact that all the members of the departing .KirkWindeyer Cup team were competing in the qualifying rounds, and with the exception of Dr. Ross all showed that they were in tip top form. Sloan Morpeth, who had not previously played on the course reeled off a 75 in the morning and a 72 in the afternoon, a really good performance on the part of the open champion. The holder of the amateur title T. H. Horton returned a 76 and 75. He was in great form going out in the afternoon, his card reading 4,5, 3,3, 4,4, 3,5, 4— 33.

J. L. Black was responsible for two steady 775. Dr. Ross made many mistakes and failed to break 80 in either round. A. D. S. Duncan, who hopes to be able to get away to Melbourne next week, took 78 in the morning but improved by four strokes in the afternoon. Among the others J. H. Drake, who from the reports is accompanying the team to Melbourne, did better than any of the team with 75 —71.

The Taranaki representative H. P. Dale of Eltham demonstrated that he can hold his own with the best of them by returning, a 78 in the morning and a 75 in the afternoon. His card for the later round read: Out 4,5, 4,5, 5,5, 5, 4, 3—38; in 3,3, 3,6, 5,5, 3,5, 4—37. He heads the qualifiers with Rana Wagg next 79—76. Jack Goss had a 79 and 78. He is playing through the rest of the tournament so it looks as though his projected trip across the Tasman is olf. Dale was to play Aplin in the first round, and if successful the winner of the Bain-Chesney in the afternoon. It would appear that he should have no difficulty in getting into the semi-final.
