FORMER MAGISTRATE
Z REINSTATEMENT COUGHT. REINSTATEMENT SOUGHT. Wellington, July IS.. Reinstatement as h stipendiary magistrate is sought in a petition presented to the House this afternoon by Mr. H. M. Rushworth (Bay of Islands) on behalf of Mr. P. L. Hollings, of Russell. The petition states that Mr. Hollings was appointed a magistrate by the National Government in 19' and he served in Marlborough, Nelson, Christchurch, Wellington and other places. In 192his health broke down temporarily as a result of overwork anl he was advised by Mr. E. P. Lee, then Minister of Justice, to take a long rest. At the suggestion of Mr. Lee, the petitioner said, he tendered his resignation on the understanding that if and when his healt had recovered he would be reinstated.
After six months’ rest he fully recovered and applied for reinstatement, r e was advised that his application wou < be considered when a vacancy occurred, but his claim was ignored when severa vacancies did occur. The petitioner said lie was now 57 and well below the retiring age. He had applied to the presen Minister of Justice, who originally appointed him, but without assigning any reason the'Minister had refused bis application, although several new appom ments had been made by him.
