RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent. ) c Mr. Pickering’s concert in aid of the earthquake fund was not as well attended aa was expected, although about £lB was taken at the door. Half of the proceeds of the pictures to be held on Saturday evening are also to go towards the funds. A collection of clothes, household gifts and anything useful is being arranged by Mrs. Weaver and others to be sent to those in need and distress in the stricken district. A meeting is to be arranged later to have the articles packed and sent free of charge. Those interested in the footballers’ ball met in the hall on Friday to make final arrangements. The Plunket committee met the nurse in the supper room of the hall and transacted their business. We are pleased to see Mrs. King Hon home from the hospital again and feeling very much better. Mr. W. J. Wright is home again and is under medical treatment. Mr. Quickenden, senr., of the Cape Road, is very ill at his homo. It is to be hoped he will soon recover. Mrs. Quickenden has been ill also. h Mr. and Mrs. Farquhar motored through to Auckland on their annual holiday. They took with them Messrs. Ken Tyrrell and R. Spratt, nephews of Mrs. Farquhar. Renovations are being made to the local hotel. "

Mr. Hughson is having the rooms done up at the back of the old drapery buildings and made fit for a dwelling. The local factory is having the manager’s house, batch and other outhouses renovated for the coming season. It is hoped to hold the annual meeting at the end of the month. The balancesneet is not out yet.

The euclire party and dance held by the croquet ladies was a success. Mr. Annis was presented with a fountain pen for his assistance at their tug-of-wars. Mrs. Williamson won the ladies’ prize (a biscuit barrel) and Mrs. R. Morgan a black runner worked in red. Mr. Inder won the gentlemen’s prize (a torch) and Mr, Atkin Newport was second and Mr. Deem third.

Constable Brenchley hag been transferred to Auckland. He and his family will be leaving shortly.
