INGLEWOOD NEWS
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The usual monthly meeting of the Inglewood Women’s Institute was held in the Methodist hall on Wednesday, July 17, when there was a good attendance of members. Four new members enrolled. A competition, “musical parcels,” which drew eleven entries, was held and caused a good deal of fun, Mrs. Kaye being the winner. Best arrangement of flowers in 21b jars was won by Mrs. Kirkby with Mrs. Wright 2nd, Mrs. J. Gibbs being the judge. Miss G> Leech rendered an elocutionary item, which was highly appreciated.
A sum of 30s was collected in aid of the women sufferers in the recent earthquakes. Afternoon tea was served with Mrs. Wright and Miss Trimble acting as hostesses. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. A garden party is to be held at Miss Trimble’s residence, Mountain Road, shortly, in connection with the institute.
It Is with regret that we have to report the death of Thomas Bell, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bell, of Moa Street. He was taken ill last Monday, subsequently developing double pneumonia, and, despite all medical and nursing efforts, passed away on Friday morning. Of his short life of ten years over five were spent in the hospital through infantile paralysis, and it was only lately that he was able to attend school.
