MANY ADVANTAGES CLAIMED HARMLESS SLEEP FOR 36 HOURS. HAS NO EFFECT ON WEAK HEARTS. By Telegraph—Press Assn,—Copyright. Australian Press Association. Vancouver, July 19. A medical discovery of importance to the whole world is reported to have been made in the shape of an anaesthetic which becomes effective in 50 seconds. It can be given to persons with the weakest hearts. It has been tested hero and, although secrecy is being maintained, it has been learned that it is being manufactured by an eastern United States medical company, and quantities have been released throughout the continent. The results will be ’tabulated before an announcement is made. The most gratifying feature of the anaesthetic, which is known as sodium amytal, is that the patient remains in a twilight sleep for a period of 36 hours, and can be awakened at any time by the administration of an antidote. There is no retching or other aftermath as with other anaesthetics.-
