LOWER MANGOREI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The children of the Lower Mangorei school much appreciate the action of the committee in supplying them with hot cocoa for lunch during the winter. The Mangorei factory suppliers are receiving a further bonus this month. This brings the payment for the wiiule season to Is (>d per lb. The season has been a record one. The Waiwakaiho River was in high flood from Saturday, July 13, to July 16, being 10ft. above normal on Saturday and lift, on Monday.

OAKURA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Cochran, vice-president of the local branch of the W.D.F.U., was hostess at an afternoon tea at the schoolhous'e. An excellent number of ladies responded to the invitation to be present, and a very enjoyable time was spent with novel competitions and musical items, Mrs. C. J. Harris. Miss Haskell and a group of four schoolboys providing the latter. Mrs. P. Knight and Mrs. W. Morris were the winners in the competitions. Airs. Cochran explained that the object for which the branch was endeavouring to raise money was the purchase of material fpr a maternity outfit, which the branch will prepare, to be handed to one of the bush nurses for use in her work. Most of the school children are back in their places after an unusual amount of illness, which has affected practically every family in the district. Mrs. C. J. Harris will attend the annual conference of the women’s division in Wellington next week.
