“RIO RITA” FOR TARANAKI.
Sir Benjamin and Mr. John Fuller’s musical comedy, “Rio Rita,” which is in the South Island, has had an extraordinarily successful tour so far, and theatrical critics everywhere have been unstinting in their praise. The Dominion, Wellington, writes: “After witnessing the premiere performance of ‘Rio Rita’ at His Majesty’s Theatre, one has metaphorically to take one’s hat. off to Sir Benjamin and Mr. John Fuller,"not only for their enterprise in securing a musical comedy so lavishly endowed with all the elements that make for success, but also in securing so excellent a cast and a production to set it off to the best advantage. Here in this comedy, with its bizarre Mexican setting and story, there is a wealth of gorgeous colouring, lavish sartorial embellishment, melodiously glamorous music, extraordinarily fine dancing by a delightful ballet and, best of all, the golden voice of Gladys Moncrieff.” Finishing Invercargill on August 6, “Rio Rita” will commence a tour of the North Island, including New Plymouth in its schedule for a brief appearance.
