THE FASHIONABLE HIP BELT.
HOW TO MAKE IT.
You may bring one or two of yout existing frocks right up to date by making for each a shaped hip belt, like those featured on many of the latest models.
It is necessary, of course, to use material either tn match the gown, or to provide a decided contrast. , The contrast is good, so long as you repeat the colour note in a triangular kerchief for the shoulders.
Measure waist and hips, and cut a paper pattern, triangular shape, as indicated in the sketch. Try this pattern on and make any necessary alterations. When you are satisfied that the hip belt will fit, cut two pieces of material exactly to the size and shape of the pattern. Sew a strip of thin whalebone in the centre of one piece,, from the middle -point to the straight edge. Mark the line of the stitching on the other piece of material and sew on ornamental buttons, or work a little embroidery, so that there is no clanger of the line of whalebone being apparent when the belt is worn. Turn in the edges of both belts, hem them neatly, and then oversew the two together,, making very small, invisible stitches, . The belt is now finished, and sliou.d be arranged with the stiffened’point over the right hip and the narrow ends tied m a careless knot at the left side of the waist. . The sketches should make everything clear.—-'D.D
