WHITE WOMEN AS CAPTIVES

Sydney, July 17.The Thursday Island police have Deen informed by friendly blacks that several white women are living in captivity with dangerous Caledon Bay natives, and the suspicion is strengthened that the women comprise survivors of tha steamer Douglas Mawson, which foundered in the Gulf of Carpentaria a few years ago. ..The police have accordingly-given cue friendly natives pencils and paper to take to the women, on which they may write a message which will facilitate their rescue aitve.
