GOLFER AWARDED DAMAGES
JEALOUS OF AMATEUR STATUS. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Capyrlght. London, July 15. The King’s Bench has awarded Tolley, the amateur golf champion, £lOOO damages for libel against Fry and Sons, chocolate manufacturers, for publishing an advertisement in 64 newspapers consisting of a limerick and caricature showing Tolley driving with chocolate in his pocket. Plaintiff complained thaJt the advertisement suggested that he was making money out of golf. He was extremely jealous of his amateur status. Stay of execution was granted for an appeal on the ground that the damages are excessive.
