Wellington, Last Night. The weather will be mainly fair in the western districts of the South Island. Elsewhere it will still be unsettled with intermittent rain and some heavy falls about Cook Strait, Cold temperatures will prevail, with snow in the high country of the South Island. The north to west winds * from Cook Strait northwards will be moderate to strong. Elsewhere there will be fresh to strong south-easterly winds. Seas will be moderate north of Castlepoint and rather rough to rough elsewhere.
