DONOVAN TO MEET GRIFFITHS
ANOTHER TOURNEY ARRANGED. T. Donovan’s next opponent will be Tommy Griffiths, who has just returned from Australia, the Taranaki Boxing Association having been successful in arranging the match, which should prove one of the best ever staged in New Plymouth. There were present at the meeting of the association last night Messrs J. Garcia (in the chair), W. Roebuak, N. Roebuck, V. S. Pruden. R. Harvey, T. Campbell and E. J. Carr (honorary secretary). It was reported that the negotiations which had been in train for a match between Tommy Donovan and Tommy Griffiths had been successful, and it was decided to match the pair at New Plymouth on August 17. The professional contest will be preceded by the finals for the Taranaki amateur championships, the preliminaries of which will be decided on the preceding night. The arrangements provide for Griffiths arriving in New Plymouth a few days before the contest, and he will, no doubt, give an exhibition of sparring on Friday evening.
