MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Opunake .Plunket carnival opened yesterday and continues to-day. r i. A. J. Brennan (chairman of the town Board) will perform the opening ceremony. In addition to the display o needlework there are side-shows, hot pies and coffee stall, cake and tea stall. Vocal and instrumental items will be given each evening. The Catholic euchre party in St. Patrick’s hall last week was well attended. The ladies’ prizes were won by Mrs. A. Hickman (first) and Mrs. McCormick (second). Mr. M Hickey won the mens first prize, the Rev. Father Dillon the second. Hostesses were Mcsdames R. Feaver and C. Ferrick. Mr. A. C. Donnelly, after a service of 21 years, has resigned the position of foreman to the Town Board. In the early period of his service wages weie 8s per day and the duties were variable, including road work, pound-keeper, town

lighting, the dog tax collector and sexton. Mr. W. J. Dudley, junr., is on holiday in Wellington. Mr. W. Haggett, of the power board staff, is in the New Plymouth hospital. The Rev. Davies, of St. Barnadoes’ Church, will shortly leave Opunake for Greytown (Mastertoil). The change Js due to medical, advice. The Rev. Davies is a capable preacher and*an entertaining speaker at social functions. Mrs. Davies takes a keen interest in girls’ sports affairs. A very pleasant evening was spent by those who attended the euchre party promoted by the Anglican Ladies’ Guild on Monday evening. The ladies’ prize, donated by Mrs. Whittington, was won by Mrs. Lee, and the men’s prize, donated by Mr. J. P. Burton, went to Mr. R. Peat. The consolation prizes were awarded Miss Bowman and Mr. R. S. Jenkin. Supper was provided by the ladies. Mrs. G. Baylis and Miss Feaver were the hostesses.

Insurance on the property occupied by Mr. Wilton, which was burnt on Sunday morning, were £(>9o on the house and £2OO on furniture and effects.

Mr. K. A. Brennan is spending a short holiday in Opunake. He is visiting relatives.
