CRUSHED BY TRACTOR
FALL DOWN ROAD BANK. ACCIDENT CAUSES DEATH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, July 15. An inquest concerning the death of David Adamson, which occurred on Turakina Hill last Friday, was held before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., this afternoon. Evidence was given by John Moye, contractor, that deceased was a single man, 22 years of age. He was a lorry driver, and w«a employed b witness on a contract' at Turakina Hill. Walter Tiffin Stewart, engineer, local agent for the makers of two tractors which had been purchased by Moye, stated that the machines had been.taken off the trucks that day, and had been handled by himself at about 3.45 p.m. appeared to be taking away the tractor he was working, so that he
could bring the other into operation. In doing this *llO got to the edge of a bank, and as he did so he looked back. Witness saw the tractor rise, as if there was a lump on the side of tl;e bank. It appeared to witness that deceased was perilously close to the edge, and he called out to him. As witness did so the tractor rolled down the side, and deceased seemed to jump out down the bank. The tractor turned completely over, and camo to a standstill on its tracks. Witness assisted Moye to get deceased clear of the machine.
Dr. Burton, of the Wanganui Hospital staff, said that deceased appeared to be suffering from internal haemorrhage and shock, as the result of being crushed by the overturning of a tractor. The circumstances showed that, the whole thing was purely accidental, and no blame #aua attachable to anyone.
