FARMERS’ COMPETITIONS

RESULTS. AT TIKORANGT. Eight ensilage stacks and seven'hay-A stacks entered in the farmers’ competitions foi the Tikoraxjgi district were judged on Monday. Several stacks have J/ been withdrawn from the competition 'A and many have not yet been opened. The judging was carried out in very , unfavourable. weather by Mr. J., M. j Smith, of tho Fields Division 'of the Department of Agriculture. It was noticed that in one or two cases unsuitr\< able weather at harvest time had impaired the quality of ha.y, while several ensilage stacks had over-heated. . Despite the fact that there .was rather much waste in many stacks, however, the quality in' most cases was'good. ■ Both Mr. J. Paulger and Mr. F. Blyde < spoke in appreciative terms of the valued service which Mr. Smith had rendered the farming community.In reply, Mr. Smith said it was', his duty to do anything he could to assist the farmer, and he hoped his services had been of some value. He also, referred to the increasing number of entries in the farmers’ competitions; Ow- ■r ing to this fact it was very difficult. ? for one man to'judge and consequently he thought a committee of three judges should be appointed. -‘ ■ • The luncheon and tea served at the Tikorangi Hall by Mrs. Meads was appreciated. • As far as judging lias proceeded the details are: — : ENSILAGE.
