DECISION OF PRIME MINISTER COURT’S JUDGMENT MUST' STAND EXEMPTIONS UPON CONDITIONS. FOR DIVINITY STUDENTS ONLY. . (By Wire- Parliamentary Reporter;) Wellington, Last Night.. A rapid fire of question and answer occurred in the House of Representatives to-day when the Primo Minister announced that the decisions of the magistrates in respect to the sentences im- . posed on two conscientious objectors to military service in Auckland would stand and that in future divinity students would have the right upon application to a magistrate to obtain exemption from military training.. When Sir Joseph Ward announced that exemptions would apply to divinity students only Labour members interjected: Or anybody else? The Prime Minister: Not anybody else. Reform members: You will wreck the whole of the Defence system. Sir Joseph: No we will not! He pointed out that the Presbyterian Church was not unanimous on the question. Divinity students would have the right to apply for exemption. Mr. J. A. Nash: Shirkers! They have tho best of tho deal at last. Mr. Parry: You kept a respectable distance out of it! Mr. Speaker: Order! Order! Sir Joseph Ward: It is only for those who apply. . ' Reform members: Everybody will apply. . . Mr. H. E. Holland: Will Miller’s wages ■' still bo garnisheed?
