GREAT PLASTIC SURGEON
NEW ZEALANDER’S FAME. OPERATION ON NAMESAKE. London, June 14. The “Sidcup Wizard” is the very apt nickname borne by Mr. H. D. Gillies, one time of New Zealand, who is chief plastic surgeon at the Hospital for Facial Injuries, Sidcup, Kent. One of the London papers refers to Major Gillies, a Canadian officer, who has been undergoing treatment at the hands of his medical namesake. “Congratulations (says the paragraphist) to Major Gillies, the last member of the Canadian Expeditionary Force to return home, in that he is able to go with an entirely new jaw. This is due to the skill of his namesake, Mr. H. D. Gillies, ■but- remarkable though the case may be, it is not by any means, I gather, Mr. Gillies’ masterpiece. “'I have seen whole faces grow as it were from nothing under the amazing skill and patience of Mr. Gillies,’ a professional friend of his told me. . The ‘Sidcup Wizard,* still comparatively young, is as possibly . the finest plastic surgeon in the world.”
