FUNDS FOR MOUNTAIN RACE

■SUCCESSFUL EUCHRE PARTY. A euchre party held in the Workers’ Hall, New Plymouth, last evening by the New Plymouth League Cycle Club, proved a financial success, the funds being for the mountain road race. Messrs Beal, Petty and Morris, of Kawaroa, under the charge of Mr. Beal, controlled the party excellently. . Twenty games were played and were won as follows: —Ladies: Mrs. Goodin, 16 games, 1; Mrs. Hay, 15 games, 2; Miss Land, Mrs. Warren and Mrs. Harvey played off for third prize, Mrs. Hay winning. Men; Mr. A. Jordan, 16 games, 1; Mr. Eoskey", 15J games, 2; Mr. G. Walker, 15 games 3. Messrs Cottam and White, J. Lobb, J. McNeill, H.'B., Ltd., and P. J. Lovell (cycle' dealer) gave donations towards the prize list. In the absence of Mr. R. Aroa, the club’s president, the secretary thanked those present for their patronage, stating that if the club continued to receive support as was the case on that occasion, the club would soon overcome the big hurdle ahead, that of keeping the mountain road race up to previous standards. He also stated that the Waitara people had supported the euchre party well, and though Waitara was not particularly interested in the mountain race they probably would be very soon, as that well-known and popular cycle rider, C. (Mac) Parker, was starting a cycle business in Waitara shortly, and would attempt to form a cycle club there and create interest. Mrs. Williamson assisted in the cloakroom.
