You are going to drive up to an automobile dealer’s place of business and you are going to say something like this. “I want to trade this car in. for one of your new models. What will you allow me on it? I think I .ought t'/ get four hundred.” The dealer will look your car over. He’ll see that it is satisfactory, mechanically. And with his metal eye on you as a certain prospect, he’ll allow you your four hundred. That is, if the finish on your car is in first-class condition —if, in addition to running well, your car looks well. But suppose, on the other hand, that you have let your car go without being refinished. The dealer will see it is dull, dingy, perhaps even shabby. Result: He will make you an allowance that is a good deal less than what you ask. A very large part of the trade in value of a. car is its appearance. Even age will be discounted to some extent if the car you wish to dispose of shows by its lustrous finish that it has been given com-mon-sense care. It is good business policy to have a bright, attractive finish on your car. Especially so when you consider that a refinishing job may return to you more than its cost in the increased “trade in” allowance it will secure. Besides, the appearance of your car influences the respect which folks in your community have for you. Then, too, when you drive a car with a smart, mir-ror-like finish you enjoy a feeling of pride very much as you did when your car was new. ’Phone us and a representative will be glad to call and talk over refinishing matters with you.
