DAIRY PRODUCE SHIPMENTS

TARANAKI MAINTAINING QUOTA. THIRD OF TOTAL CHEESE EXPORT. Comparatively email shipments of dairy produce will be leaving New Zealand for British- markets in the next two months, but of the total cheese exports Taranaki will again be sending her share. Production in the winter months is always low, but in Taranaki there is not the same drastic check on output as operates in the colder south. In the next two months one out of every three crates of cheese sent from New Zealand will be shipped from Taranaki. Out of a Dominion total of (53,400 crates, 6500 will go from North Taranaki through New Plymouth, and 13,987 from South Taranaki through Patea. The nearest rivals to Taranaki are Southland and Wellington, which will ship 14,000 and 11.000 crates respectively. Butter production has again this season not been so large a factor in the province’s dairy industry. Taranaki’s quota in the latest allotments is only 18,577 boxes out of a Dominion aggregate of 154,441 boxes, or about 12 per cent. The export figures for Auckland are remarkable, the allotment being 115,000 boxes, or almost 75 per cent, of the country’s total production. Following are details of the allotments, the° table showing the number of boxes of butter and crates.of cheese to be shipped through New Plymouth and Patea and the total from all Dominion ports. Only the Kia Ora and the Hurunui will load at New Plymouth direct, the remainder- of the produce being transferred coastwise to Wellington. The figures for butter are given above those for cheese in each
