NEW CRIMINAL CODE
CATEGORIES IN ITALY. ' London, July 2. The new Italian criminal code has been completed, says the Rome correspondent of the Times. The draftsmen explain that its object is “to correct misplaced indulgence toward criminals.” Persons arrested will be divided into two categories—(l) Those who do not deserve any consideration; (2) those who, owing to special circumstances, deserve treatment of “eliminated humanity.”
A new regulation provides that prisoners awaiting trial must pay the cost of their maintenance if they are subsequently, convicted.
