CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

INGLESIDE FOR INGLEWOOD. Arrangements in connection with an ingleside to be held at Inglewood on Thursday were considered at a meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society on Saturday evening. Mr, A. McHardy (chief) presided. Detailed matters in connection with the function were discussed and the secretary was empowered to visit Inglewood to make certain arrangements. The masters of ceremonies for the evening will be Messrs. M. G. Nasmith, A. S. Kirkland, P. Corkill and J. Erskine. The Okato hall committee wrote that it did not favour the holding of an ingleside at the hall on a Saturday evening, but was prepared to let the society have the hall at a fixed rental. After discussion it was resolved not to hold an ingleside at Okato. In order’ to allow the electric light committee full opportunity to decorate the hall for its annual ball, it was agreed to alter the date of the final ingleside to September 2 and the fourth ingleside to August 5. Messrs. A. MacDiarmid and W. Jones were appointed masters of ceremonies for the fourth ingleside. Buses would run after the function. Mr. A. M. Mac Diarmid was elected chieftain to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. J. G. Williamson owing to ill-health, while Mr. A. Rankin was appointed to fill the vacancy on the executive caused by the elevation of Air. Mac Diarmid. Mr. Kirkland was appointed delegate to the executive of the Wanganui-Tara-naki districts of the New Zealand Highland Pipe Bands’ Association. The pipe-major reported that' he had two vacancies in the pipe band for beginners. The treasurer reported that the pipe band earnings for the year to date totalled £ll2 Is lid, while expenditure on band equipment had been £4l 5s 4d and concert and other expenses £64 18s. Two new members were elected.
