ASSISTANCE FOR SOLDIERS
WAR FUNDS COUNCIL MEETS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 12. The War Fund Council met at Parliament House yesterday. A resolution of appreciation of Mr. Down*: Stewart's services as Minister of War Funds and for the interest displayed by him in patriotic matters was carried unanimously. It was decided that a further sum ot £5OOO be authorised further to assist unemployed soldiers during the forthcoming year. A resolution was passed recommendin" the Government to accord further assistance to South African veterans. Pleasure was expressed that at this date bequests made for the benefit, oi ex-soldiers showed that their services were still remembered. The disposal of the remaining portion of the Methodist war fund was finalised. The money will be used in the assistance of padres, in accordance with the original purpose. The accumulated fund of the trust stands at £162,183, in addition to which there are trust funds of £6991.
